Do students experience transformation through co-creating curriculum in higher education?

Many studies highlight positive outcomes from curriculum co-creation including its transformational potential for students. In this paper, we explore how transforms students, drawing on Johansson and Felten’s (2014. Transforming Students: Fulfilling the Promise of Higher Education. Baltimore, MD: Johns Hopkins University Press) theoretical framework four factors student transformation: (1) disruption previous ways working, (2) reflection experiences, (3) new forms action, (4) integration perspectives working. We present our analysis staff experiences actively engaging in at five Scottish universities to understand which students are transformed through experience. Our findings focus themes transformation co-creation: developing relationships community; engagement enjoyment; taking risks overcoming challenges; academic achievement retention. conclude that challenges inherent may fact be exactly those conditions conducive transformation.
